Welcome to our plant search tool. This database contains many of the thousands of plants that we carry. There are some notable exceptions. Hundreds of new perennials come out every year and Make It Green has been a leader in making them available to you. Eventually the recent introductions will make it to our plant search tool but every year there will be a lag between our in-store plant selection and this search tool. Unfortunately this search tool can't cover everything that we will carry this year. We also carry over 100 varieties of rare and unusual evergreens and over 100 varieties of hard-to-find shrubs many of which are not in the plant search. Click on the Plant List button for a list of nearly all the woody plants (trees, shrubs and evergreens) that we have ordered or already have in stock for this coming year.

Acer shirasawanum 'Red Dawn'
Height: 15 feet
Spread: 15 feet
Sunlight:
Hardiness Zone: 5a
Description:
A vigorous tree with more upright habit and larger pointier leaves than others of this species; attractive burgundy foliage eventually fades to dark green throughout the summer; vibrant fall color; a shapely color accent for the garden
Ornamental Features
Red Dawn Full Moon Maple has attractive burgundy foliage which emerges scarlet in spring. The large lobed leaves are highly ornamental and turn an outstanding crimson in the fall. Neither the flowers nor the fruit are ornamentally significant.
Landscape Attributes
Red Dawn Full Moon Maple is a deciduous tree with an upright spreading habit of growth. Its average texture blends into the landscape, but can be balanced by one or two finer or coarser trees or shrubs for an effective composition.
This is a relatively low maintenance tree, and should only be pruned in summer after the leaves have fully developed, as it may 'bleed' sap if pruned in late winter or early spring. It has no significant negative characteristics.
Red Dawn Full Moon Maple is recommended for the following landscape applications;
- Accent
- Shade
- Mass Planting
- Hedges/Screening
Planting & Growing
Red Dawn Full Moon Maple will grow to be about 15 feet tall at maturity, with a spread of 15 feet. It has a low canopy with a typical clearance of 2 feet from the ground, and is suitable for planting under power lines. It grows at a slow rate, and under ideal conditions can be expected to live for 60 years or more.
This tree does best in full sun to partial shade. It prefers to grow in average to moist conditions, and shouldn't be allowed to dry out. It is not particular as to soil pH, but grows best in rich soils. It is somewhat tolerant of urban pollution. This is a selected variety of a species not originally from North America.
